Getting started
Open the app. All 236 figures are already there — nothing to set up, no
account to create.
Tap a figure to mark it as owned. Your count updates as you go.
Tap the info button on a figure for its details, colours and photos.
Export a backup now and then, so your collection is never only in one place.
Frequently asked
Why don't the figures have pictures?
Because we only use photographs we have the right to use. Rather than
borrow someone else's, the app ships without figure photographs and lets you
build the picture of your own collection as you go. More are added in app
updates over time.
Can I add my own photos?
Yes. Photograph a figure you own and it becomes that figure's picture in
your app. If you own more than one copy, each copy can have its own photo —
useful when you have the same sculpt in different colours.
How do I back up my collection?
Use Export collection from the menu. It produces a single
file containing everything, including your photos. Keep it in iCloud Drive,
email it to yourself, or save it anywhere you like. Your device's normal
backup also includes the app's data.
How do I restore, or move to a new device?
Use Import collection and choose your exported file. You
will be asked whether to merge it with what is already there or
replace it. Nothing is overwritten without you choosing it.
What is the difference between merge and replace?
Merge adds what the file has without removing anything you
already recorded — safe to run twice. Replace discards your
current collection and uses the file instead, and asks you to confirm before
it does.
How do colours work?
The line was produced in ten colours. You can record which colours you own
for any figure, and hold more than one copy in the same colour. Your main
completion number still counts each sculpt once — owning #023 in five colours
is one figure towards 236, not five.
Why is my completion number not going up when I add colours?
That is deliberate. The canonical set is 236 distinct figures, so that is
what the headline number tracks. Colour progress is shown separately.
Does the app work offline?
Always. It makes no network connections at all, so it works identically at
a toy show, in a basement, or on a plane.
Is my collection sent anywhere?
No. There are no accounts and no servers. See the
privacy policy.
What happens if I delete the app?
Everything stored on the device goes with it. Export a backup first.
Are the figure names official?
Mostly not. Mattel sold the figures essentially unnamed, so almost every
name in circulation is a collector-community label. The app marks which names
are official and which are collector names, and the figure number is always
the reliable identifier.
Contributing a photo
If you own a figure the app has no picture for, you are welcome to email a
photograph to photos@fleshfighters.com
so it can be considered for a future version.
Plain background, good light, the whole figure in frame.
Tell us the figure number and the colour.
Send three or four photos per email, not a whole batch.
Anything over 25 MB is rejected before it reaches us, and you would
get an unhelpful bounce rather than a reply. Several small emails are
much better than one large one.
Say whether you would like to be named, or prefer to stay anonymous.
Only send photographs you took yourself.
By emailing a photograph you are giving permission for it to be used in the
app. You can withdraw that at any time by emailing us.
Accessibility
Flesh Fighters is built to be used with VoiceOver, supports Dynamic Type at
every size including the largest accessibility sizes, and never relies on colour
alone to tell you something — ownership and colour entries always carry a label
or count as well.
If something is hard to use with assistive technology, please tell us. It is
treated as a bug, not a feature request.
Something went wrong
The app will not open my backup file
Check it is the file the app exported and that it has not been renamed to a
different extension. If it still will not open, email it to us and we will look.
My collection looks empty
The app never erases a collection it cannot read — it sets the file aside
instead and tells you. If you see that message, do not re-enter everything.
Email us first; the data is very likely recoverable.
Photos are taking up a lot of space
The app shows how much storage your photos use and lets you delete them
individually.
